POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, experienced Lifeguard
Coordinator to assist the Aquatic Director in providing excellent service to
our community and patrons in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that
promotes wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and
procedures. The Lifeguard Coordinator will oversee the management of the safety
of our patrons and staff, excellent preventative methods from injuries,
excellent adherence to the 10/20 rule, excellence in lifesaving measures and
financial development of the Deaconess Aquatic Center. The schedule will be
flexible but will require multiple weekends per month as well as some early
morning and evening shifts.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership, discipline, and mentorship to lifeguards.
●
Participate in the Aquatics staff meetings each month to ensure
consistency and quality in aquatic programs and facilities.
●
Helps the Aquatics Director lead monthly in-service training and
working with lifeguards to make sure all skills, qualifications, and
obligations as a lifeguard are fulfilled.
●
Works with the Aquatics Director to create a monthly schedule for
guards, keep shifts filled, choose and train shift leaders, and makes sure
shift tasks are completed.
●
Monitors and assists in daily pool operations to adhere to all state,
local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
●
Works 15 - 20 hours of frontline each week (lifeguarding, on-going
guard evaluations, coaching, etc.) PLUS works 15 - 20 hours per week
administrative (scheduling issues, record keeping, safety checks, etc.) = 20 -
30 hours/week
●
Builds effective relationships with patrons; ensures excellent
customer service.
●
Assists in establishing new program activities and expanding programs
within the community in accordance with the strategic plans.
●
Commits to serving others and respects the mission of the YMCA of
Southwestern IN.
QUALIFICATIONS:
●
Associates degree or working on a degree in a related field preferred
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
●
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all
social and economic segments of the community.
●
Experience supervising and training adults.
●
Experience working with children and adults.
●
At least two years of experience in the aquatics field is preferred.
●
Required certifications: Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding or
equivalent. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include the completion
of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Oxygen, and Blood Borne
Pathogens.
●
ARC Lifeguard Instructor Certification or equivalent is
preferred. If not currently holding one,
they will take the next class.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
●
Ability to conduct classes and activities relating to aquatics.
●
Ability to pass the lifeguard physical test and reach the bottom of a
13-foot pool
●
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and remain alert.
●
Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
●
Ability to continuously scan all areas.
●
Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water
rescue and removal of a person from the water to perform first aid.
●
Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across
distance in normal and loud situations.
