POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the guidance of the Senior Wellness Director, the Personal Trainer is responsible for working with members in a courteous and motivating manner. This position works independently under general direction to provide safe and effective one-to-one (or small group) personal training to program participants.  The Personal Trainer must be able to guide, educate and motivate participants toward reaching their personal wellness goals. Please include your certifications. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Complete required abuse risk management training.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Ensure check-in procedures are followed.
  • Creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; builds relationships with and among members and program participants.
  • Communicates appropriately with individuals based on readiness to change; coaches them in support of their desired behavior change and regularly checks on members’ progress in meeting personal and program goals. 
  • Shares wellness program information with members, using available tools and resources (e.g., handouts, schedules).
  • Asks and answers questions (e.g., post-enrollment interview) and displays empathy in support of helping members and program participants define and build confidence to achieve their health and wellness goals based on their personal goals, cultural background, healthcare needs, diverse abilities, and interests; develops plans to meet their individual needs.
  • Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Supports members and participants in achieving their goals. Serves as a resource for staff in all matters relating to their training expertise.
  • Develops training content appropriate to the participant; develops appropriate tools necessary to offer quality training; provides feedback to participants and proper instruction in the use of support materials.  
  • Prepares for training activities including training plans, organizing relative equipment, etc. May be required to set up and break-down materials and equipment used for instruction.
  • Provides a safe caring environment for all participants; enforces all general policies if applicable; completes any necessary reports and forms (e.g., attendance records, certifications).
  • Supports departmental initiatives and identifies ways to enhance learning effectiveness.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations
  • Performs other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen, and Blood Borne Pathogen training is required within 60 days of employment.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training is required on/before the first day of work.
